Five Arguments Against Homosexuality

Homosexuality is Wrong

Introduction:

The topic of homosexuality is one of great controversy. This page’s purpose is to identify some common arguments against homosexuality and evaluate the premises of those arguments and how they effect the end conclusion: homosexuality is wrong. This conclusion can mean many things: this could entail only homosexual sex as wrong, it could apply to homosexual orientation, homosexual relationships, or all of these things. With each argument we will identify the claims the make up the argument (the premises), look at the meanings of the premises and see if we can come up with counterexamples to disprove them. If we can disprove the premises, we can identify the arguments as unsound, making the conclusion not true.

Arguments:

1. The Bible says that homosexuality is Wrong:                                                   This argument is in a religious perspective, so in a world where Christianity is one of the most acclaimed religions, anything that the Bible may claim to be a sin, is essentially morally impermissible. The prominent religion in the United States is Christianity, and homosexuality is considered to be a sin in the Bible. Therefore, homosexuality is wrong. The bible makes many claims, some which won't even apply to the era that we are in today. This means that the premise in this argument is not valid.
2. Homosexuality would put a stunt on the growth of our species (Biologically):                                                                                                         For reproduction to happen within the human race, there needs to be contact between an egg cell and a sperm cell. With homosexuality, that just isn't possible. If the world was homosexual, by the time that everyone died, the human population would be extinct. If the action causes depopulation towards a species, then it is wrong. Homosexuality would eventually cause a digression in the growth of the human population. Therefore, homosexuality is wrong. 20 years ago, if someone said this, sure it would be true, however with the technology we have today, many of the things done naturally , can be done artificially. This means that the premise in this argument are not valid.
3. Homosexuality causes addition to hate crimes:                                                       Think about everything thats going on in this day and age, Black people are being killed just because the color of our skin causes fear to the oppressor. People who are gay are also hated and despised by many just as the black community. If the action causes more hate crime than there already is, then the action is wrong. Homosexuality causes another branch of hate towards a community. Therefore, homosexuality is wrong. The premises that are in this argument are not valid because everyone is entitled to their own freedom of speech, religion, and etc. This means that if a person claims to be homosexual, there shouldn't be an issue just because someone isn't okay with it.
4. Homosexuals cannot reproduce:
   The topic of reproductivity and homosexuality have sprung various arguments. Many argue that Homosexuals can not reproduce. Because they can't produce, people believe that any orientation that wont allow for reproductivity is wrong. In conclusion, they believe having a Homosexual orientation is in fact wrong. 
   Simpler Formula: -Homosexuals can't reproduce -Any orientation that doesn't allow reproduction is wrong -Therefore homosexual orientation is wrong.                                                              Because the conclusion is entailed by, and logically follows, this argument can be considered logically valid; but not sound. When you first evaluate the argument, you can see that the first premise is false. Homosexuals in fact can reproduce. For example, a female couple are able to have a semen-father in order to reproduce. Next, the second premise is not true because in various cases, heterosexuals are not able to have children due to certain illnesses, thus saying heterosexual orientation is wrong. Lastly, this proves that the conclusion is false, due to the fact both premises are false.
5. Homosexuality is gross:                                                                                                There are many interesting arguments we will explore. One of them goes like this: homosexuality is gross, nasty, and disgusting. Anything that is gross, nasty, or disgusting is wrong. So homosexuality is wrong. For this argument, the conclusion can apply to all types of homosexuality (sex, relationships, and orientation).  This argument includes 2 premises. The first premise is homosexuality is gross, nasty, disgusting: this premise is not true because while homosexuality may be gross to one, it might be beautiful to another. It is an objective and opinion based premise and we can’t claim it as true. The second premise is that everything that is gross or nasty is wrong. This premise is also wrong, going number 2 is seen by many as gross or nasty: but it isn’t wrong as a matter of fact it is a positive process that ensures your body is regularly releasing toxins. With both premises classified as false, we can state this argument as unsound and the conclusion as false. The conclusion might be true, but not for these reasons.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, the topic of homosexuality is without a doubt controversial. Identifying and evaluating  various common arguments against homosexuality, we see that most arguments presented were proven to be unsound. Regarding each argument, we identified the claims (premises) -that makes the argument, and then we also came up with some counterexamples to disprove them. Overall, as previously said - we were able to disprove most premises. Because of this, we were able to identify the arguments as unsound, thus making conclusions not true.
